A request from the management

Take down the tone a bit folks. No swearing (spelled out). Be more polite to each other, even the trolls and idiots. Stop with the Faux News style of yelling at each other all the time. Have good intelligent conversations and arguments.

We're all in this together, whether we like it or not.

Keith, The anger will get worse as this problem continues to take its toll. Alot of anger is beseaching the housing market because everyone was depending on there home to retire. It is very sad but this is the result of greed, fraud and corruption in the housing industry. Thanks for maintaining a great blog and allowing us anons to post.

Keep up the great work and be on guard for the worst yet to come as this housing mess continues to ravage the wealth of home owners.

I second the call for civilized discourse.

We are definitely all in this together... there are a lot of people who believe themselves to be exempt from any of the trouble brewing, and the Powers That Be(TM) like it that way.

The nouveau riche, the Dellionaires, the country clubbers, the staunch GOP supporters... basically, everyone who sits back and says "I don't care, I'm not going to be affected by whatever mumbo jumbo you're on about, let the peons suffer, I'm elite" are in for the rudest of rude awakenings. (Ask the rich homeowners in New Orleans if they ever thought there would be military forces kicking in their doors... that was a barn dance compared to what may be in store for the country, on this current path.)

No one is exempt. This means YOU. So let's stop fighting amongst ourselves. They're counting on us doing that.

Agent #777 if he disabled anonymous postings, the conversations would be as exciting as your love life.

Anonymity breeds truth!

Geez, and then the unexpected happens...we have a civil and eloquent ANON poster!
What are trying to do, give anonymous a good name?

And in the aftermath of GWB, McCain and Mel "I came legally, but why should that apply to everyone else" Martinez, I am not sure I am even a Republican anymore. I guess I am in the same way Ron Paul is ;-) I have only sent $200 so far, but I suspect that I may be sending up to the $2300 limit if his campaign gathers steam. And I have never even CONSIDERED sending money to ANY candidate for anything prior to this year.

It might help if you stop calling for the castration/jailing/bad mouthing of the president and anyone who voted for a Republican for the last 4 election cycles...

Don't worry about the anger problem. The troll disappears when the market sells off. Soon we'll never hear from him/her/it again!

I agree with Anon that the anger will get worse at the boomers realize that retirement isn't 3 or 4 years away, but likely never. I know more than one person in my "boomer" age group who was planning on selling the house and "downsizing" to retire. . .problem was, they HELOC'd their houses, and now they don't have much equity. Forget about subprime - that directly impacts only a small percent - it is the regular HELOC's, and ARMS that will kill the middle class. . .they will not default, but the payments will kill them.

Language aside, I have been flamed many times. What is most offensive are the trolls that respond to who I am as a person rather than what I posted. What makes this more outrageous is that none of these folks has any clue who I am. These are generally the only people that are the subject of my wrath, and I seldom respond with any personal attacks save mocking them by parroting their own infantile words.

I think we place to much emphasis on words and not enough on the context of their usage. If you want to make me look stupid, then argue against my logic and not my character.

On one he calls for civil discourse and on the other hand throws in the typical liberal "Faux News" B.S.

It's amazing how libs (and you are btw) maintain such denial. It is admitted by the NYT, CNN, and CBS that they have had SEVER journalistic integrity issues, yet libs consistently bury their heads in the sand regarding this FACT and instead, project (psych term here) the issue onto Fox News. Amazing.

Here is an earlier post with a slight twist going back 5-7 years:

Keith, The anger will get worse as this problem continues to take its toll. Alot of anger is beseeching the stock market because many were depending on their high-tech stock portfolios to retire. It is very sad, but this is the result of greed, fraud and corruption in the brokerage/analyst industry. Thanks for maintaining a great blog and allowing us anons to post.

when you folks quit being racist and making derogatory comments about blacks, perhaps i will quit clowning. i can not see how this problem was created by black people because white folks are the ones in charge, been red lining us for years and now all of a sudden we are in the game, please. until then whatever. btw i never capitalize my statements so you know it's me. so whatever.

Sorry, but I have call'm the way I see them.

Illegals are racist, law breakers, cheaters, exploiters and very frequently violent and feloneous criminals.

Keith, I cannot wait for the 2008 elections. The control freeks will get evicted, at last; and then we as a country can get back to our roots as masses of peace loving VW drivin hippie busses with flowers rule the landscape once again, and the fascist freeks are left watching faux noise 24/7/365 wondering what happened to their war OF CHOICE.

A very sweet, intelligent black lady came in my store today. She had a mortgage thru Chase Manhatten, had lived in her home 11 years. She was late on a payment and within 30 days they had foreclosed and slapped her with $4000 in attorney fees she had no way of paying. She filed bankruptcy and has been living with a friend ever since. This was 4 years ago. This is Alabama where they can foreclose within 30 days.Told her I would check out the mortgage fraud websites. She off course thinks SHE did something wrong, which is pathetic.

Keith,

As far as I see it, you have already set the tone of the blog with your postings. E.g. the constant racist undertones of your dislike of illegal immigrants will attract the sort of people who are likely to take the tone of the discussion to a lower level.

So, I would suggest that rather than asking people to behave in a civilised way, perhaps it would be more effective to avoid topics that attract the less educated?

What's shameful are people calling others liberal when that isn't the case.

I am libertarian...big frickin' difference. Wish the partisans would wake up and DISCUSS the problem instead of lumping different opinions together.

Well now that I think of it, this is a liberal democracy so if the anonymous person wants to call me a liberal, I'll take that they mean the old definition...Thanks!

Dolph said...

Actually the modern GOP and anybody named Clinton is responsible for the mess we are in.

I registered as an independent because I am an American first. Parties mean nothing to me.

Dolph said...

The guy who keeps throwing liberal out there...answer me this:

We live in a freaking liberal democracy. Get over it. Fox News is not a credible place for news. That's fact.

WSJ is where I get my news. Quite the liberal I am (har har) reading that newspaper. At least they try to be objective.

IT IS SO FUNNY TO READ SOME OF YOUR REPLIES. HE WASN'T TALKING DIRECTLY TO ANYONE READER, JUST IN GENERAL. THE MOST UPTIGHT READERS SEEM TO BE THIN SKINNED ONES TAKING ALL OF THIS PERSONALLY. I THINK WHAT KEITH IS ASKING IS THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR OPINION, JUST COMMUNICATE IT IN AN INTELLIGENT WAY SO THAT ALL OF US CAN HAVE A DIALOG AND NOT A NAME CALLING CONTEST. IF THAT IS YOUR THING, PLEASE TAKE IT TO ONE OF THE OTHER BLOGS (LIKE RUSH LIMBAUGH'S OR AL FRANKEN'S) BUT LET'S USE THIS ONE TO GET SOMEWHERE. (P.S. CALL ME OR OTHERS ON THIS BLOG WHAT YOU WANT BUT IF WE DON'T RESPECT YOU THEN WHY THE HECK WOULD WE CARE. STOP WASTING PEOPLE'S TIME.)

i looked at ron paul's supporting cast and I noticed he has several jews working for him. he had better remove those double agents or he will never win anything. He even has a russian jew in charge of his security....that alone sends shivers up my back. that is like putting the fox in charge of the hen house.....

I'm visiting relatives in Omaha this week. When I was last here in Feb (of '07), I couldn't help but notice a plethora of W '04 bumper stickers still proudly pasted on local cars. Fast forward to July...the Bush bumper stickers are all gone.

Hey, goopers, 2008 is shaping up as a disaster for your party. If you lose the support of Nebraskans, you might as well not run a presidential candidate next year.

Keith:
Your concern is disingenuous.
Look: your blog is the bubble blog "with an attitude problem"; Bush is a chimp; Cheney is the Evil Overlord; people are "sheeple" (a really terrifying metaphor when you think about it--I mean, to what depths have humans descended when they dehumanize their fellows?); realtors are idiots and criminals; and lenders are pure idiots.

I like your blog, but I take a lot of it with the proverbial grain of salt. If you want careful, well-informed, reasonable comments, go to Ben Jones' Housing Bubble Blog. If you want some intelligent commentary, with a huge dose of street theatre and incendiary rhetoric, go to Housing Panic.

But please, do not ask for whom the bell tolls--it tolls for thee.

I've made the mistake of responding to insults with a juvenile "moron" at the end of my post a couple of times on this blog. It was stupid of me.
Keith,it's an open forum. Let people say whatever they want to say as long as they stay on the topic. If they want porno, or the latest Arian Nation diatribe, I'm sure there are Blogs for that. They can go there.
BTW - and it has to be responded to every time the assertion is made - opposing completely open borders and the government support of illegal immigration is not racist! It has nothing to do with race. Interesting that the National Council of La Raza ("The Race") supports the college student organization MECHA whose motto is "Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada"(For the race everything, outside the race, nothing) Being of Mexican decent, I know firsthand that Mexicans are extremely racist. So please stop whining about racism every time the issue of illegal immigration is brought up.

"We live in a freaking liberal democracy."

Dolph, I think you are equivocating. George Washington, James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson were all "liberals". But a Jeffersonian liberal is not the same thing as a Clintonian liberal.

By the way, Keith, I will respect your request. I love this blog, and you have always been a benevolent dictator.

But I still must refer to anons as "anonypusses".

Keith, I agree with your call for civil discourse.

And, if you don't mind a suggestion . . . would you consider starting the opeining thread over once a week ?

That way, it is easier to scan for new information (it does not get so large) and when archived it becomes a running record of sentiment -- that is loosley dated.

Excellent post - and very true.

It's a shame so much false pride and status was placed on home debtership.

Regardless of whether you own or rent, paying more then you have to doesn't make sense.

You brought up a key issue here - retirement.

Many companies are doing their best now to wittle down 401K's and funded pensions.

A strong private sector is what we need to get our country back to a solid economic state - where we're actually creating something.

Sadly, this is the very sector being hit the hardest, and which will suffer the greatest, by this crisis.
